The Sword in the Stone

The Sword in the Stone is the weapon that in Arthurian legend only the rightful king of Great Britain can extract from the stone, sometimes associated with Excalibur.

In the famous animated film by Walt Disney it is said that in England in the sixth century, where there are many brave and daring knights, King Uther Pendragon dies without having left an heir to the throne. Without a king, the kingdom seems destined to be torn apart by war, when, suddenly, a miracle occurs: in London, out of nowhere, the "sword in the stone" appears, a sword stuck in an anvil with an inscription proclaiming that "whoever draws this sword from this rock and this anvil will by right be king of England". Many try to draw the sword, but no one can move it even an inch, and the sword is eventually forgotten as England sinks into the dark ages.

Many years later, Arthur (a 12 year old orphan commonly called Semola) manages to extract it and is proclaimed by all the knights "Long live King Arthur!" , while the crowd kneels before him. Merlin tells the boy that he will lead the knights of the Round Table, becoming a great legend and a very popular figure in literature and cinema (although obviously at that time no one knows what cinema is).
